Obituary for Leonard A. Holstad

Leonard A.  Holstad
Holstad, Leonard Axel of Apache Junction, Arizona was called home to the Lord on 4/15/16 at the age of 89. Leonard was born in South Milwaukee, WI on 12/15/1926 and was married to Beverly Holstad for 63 years.
Loving father to Lori (Holstad) Barone, son-in-law Robert Barone, Papa to his six grandchildren, Rob Mountain, Justin Mountain, Lenny Holstad, Terry Holstad, Heidi (Holstad) Kotzenmacher, Heather Holstad, and 10 great-grandchildren, further survived by nieces and nephews and sister-in-law Jean Reading. Proceeded in death by his wife Beverly Holstad, and son Leonard Alan Holstad who both passed away in 2012, parents Oscar and Thyra Holstad and Sister Lillian Ganske.
Leonard’s recent favorite activity was working on puzzles with his friends at his assisted living facility in Apache Junction, Arizona.
Leonard worked as a machinist and welder in the Fabrication shop at Bucyrus Erie for 38 ½ years.
Leonard was a survivor of both stage four non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and open heart surgery. He was a very tough man and the pillar of strength in our family states his daughter Lori.
Leonard served in the Navy from 1944 to 1947 and was trained as an Aviation Machinist 2nd Class AMM 2/C. Leonard stated that everyone was going into the service and he loved his country and wanted to serve. He was trained as a machine gunner and worked on the starboard side of a PB442 bomber plane. Leonard also played the Baritone in the Navy band and was quite the dancer.
Leonard will be laid to rest next his wife Beverly and son Leonard Alan Holstad in the family Crypt at Forest Hill Cemetery in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, on Saturday, May 14th at 11 am. There will be a full Navy color guard salute for Leonard Holstad’s Military service during World War 11. There will also be a eulogy and music provided by Robert and Lori Barone.
