Walter Wszelaki

November 21, 1953 — May 6, 2025

Walter William Wszelaki passed away on May 6, 2025, at the age of 71 at his home in South Milwaukee. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Beloved husband and best friend of Heidi (née Carlson) for 44 wonderful years, Walter—affectionately called Wally by many, and still known as "Bill" to many of his family members and his classmates from South Milwaukee High School Class of 1971.  He was a devoted and caring husband, a loving father, and a proud "Papa". He was the cherished father of the late Andrew (Tracy Larson) Wszelaki, Nicolas (Janie) Wszelaki, and Luke Wszelaki, and the deeply adored "Papa" of Tessa, Drew, and Brennan.

Wally shared an especially close bond with his sons, who were the center of his world. Whether offering advice, cheering them on, or simply being there, he was a constant source of love, strength, and quiet guidance. He was not only a father but a mentor and a true friend to his boys.

He spent over 40 years working at Metal-Cut Products (formerly D.E. Carlson Company) where his dedication, dependability, and strong work ethic left a lasting impact. In addition to raising his family and sharing a joyful life with Heidi, Wally also dedicated 43 years to the South Milwaukee Recreation Department, where he was a respected and cherished member of the community.  He was a coach, a supervisor and a referee through both the recreation department and school sports teams in South Milwaukee.  He also taught kids basketball (kindergarten through 4th grade students) for many years.

A passionate fan of all Wisconsin sports, Wally rarely missed a Packers, Brewers, Bucks , Badgers or Marquette game. He had an unbelievable memory for statistics on many sports, from present and in the past, that he shared with his family and friends.  He was also an avid golfer who found joy, camaraderie, and peace on the course.

Wally had many loving friends and was a mentor to countless others. His kindness, wisdom, and sincerity made him someone people turned to for support, encouragement, or a good laugh. He made everyone feel welcome and valued, and his friendships were genuine and lasting.

He was preceded in death by his very dear and close brother Roman (Kris) Wszelaki.  He is further survived and lovingly remembered by his cherished sister Mary (Jeff) Latus and by his sister-in-law Jan (Dave) Kerber, with whom he spent much of his free time with and had a shared closeness.  He is also survived by his brother-in-law Trent (Cindy) Carlson,  and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and loving longtime friends.

Wally will be remembered for his generous heart, his beautiful smile, quiet strength, wonderful sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family and community. He was Heidi's partner in all things—her greatest companion and best friend—and the life they shared was a beautiful testament to love, commitment, and joy.  He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
