Thea Grochowski

August 17, 1940 — June 21, 2022

Thea Anita Grochowski (nee Pletz) of Cudahy, WI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at the age of 81. Thea is now reunited in heaven with the love of her life, her husband Bob who passed away earlier this year. Loving Mom of Donna Hellmann (Larry), Frank Huhn (Jill), Stefanie Kivi (Jacob) and loving Step-Mom of Michele Tietyen. Proud Grandmother of Gabby, TJ, Kristina, Nicole, Jesse, Cyle, Sarah, Megan, Katie and Jake. Preceded in death by her husband Robert Grochowski, parents Theodor Pletz and Anna Slamic (Stoklossa), brother's Heinz, Siegfried, and Joachim, and sister-in-law Patti Grochowski. Further survived by brother-in-laws Jimmy Grochowski and Tom (Angie) Grochowski many great-grandchildren, loving relatives, friends, and life long best friends Pat Lemcke and Louise Dahms. Thea was born on August 17, 1940 in Friedrichsdorf Hochrich district Glogau, Germany. As a young child in World War II, she fled with her family for 6 weeks in winter by walking and with horse and buggy to the Bavarian region of Allgäu Germany. Hearing the stories of what she endured growing up were sad, yet fascinating for us children to listen to, our Mom was a walking history book. She moved to the United States of America in 1965 and taught herself much of the English language while watching Sesame Street with her oldest children. She became a U.S. Citizen on May 1, 1974 and was extremely proud to be one. Thea worked in an office and then as a store manager for The London Cleaners before retiring. Thea most enjoyed spending her time with her family and friends. She enjoyed her trips back home to Germany to visit her family, up north, lunches and shopping with her friends, or just taking drives to various places around the area. Thea kept an immaculate house, could get any stain out of anything, was a great seamstress, avid gardener, dressed to the 9's, and in earlier years loved cruising around in her 1987 Monte Carlo SS. She was a very loving and affectionate soul, one whom always made sure to take care of anyone as much as she could. She had a great ability to carry a meaningful conversation with just about anyone, provide a feast of food whether or not you were hungry, and always told you she will always love you. While her later years were a bit of a different version of herself, you could always feel her love. Our hearts here on Earth are broken and sad, but we find peace knowing she is no longer heartbroken. Putz and Putzie's love story is now complete on Earth, but the next chapter has begun in Heaven. Lieber Gott, mach mich fromm, dass ist in den Himmel komm, Amen. We will always love you. In lieu of flowers, you may make a donation to the family or to the Alzheimer's Association in honor of Thea.
