Sharon LaVonne Cornehls, age 90, passed away peacefully on October 15th, 2026, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on June 10, 1936, in New Lisbon, Wisconsin, to Selma (Besta) and Melford Brunner. Growing up, Sharon spent her time developing her passion for reading and helping others by babysitting their children.
She met Carl Cornehls at the Palomar Roller Rink and married him at age 19 on November 24, 1955. Together, they had 3 children: Scott, Jeff, and Heidi. She and Carl had 70 wonderful years together, a testament to a remarkable partnership built on love, faith, and friendship.
Sharon was a devoted mother to Scott (Joanie), Jeff (Cindy), and Heidi (Terry). This devotion and unyielding love extended to her eight grandchildren: Angela (Brett), Jeremy (Dani), Abby (Jayvin), Tyler, Carly, Adam (Jody), AJ (Brittany), and Evan (Sam). Sharon was blessed with 17 great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to her life.
She was preceded in death by her son Jeff (Cindy), brother Bill, Butch, and Danny, sister Karen, and sister-in-law, Fritzi. She is survived by her two sisters, Marian and Sami (Tom), sister-in-law, Big Heidi, nieces, nephews, and many other loved ones who will miss her dearly.
Faith was what guided Sharon in every decision she made. She held many important roles in the church, including as first church deaconess, church secretary, a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the choir. She was known for her unwavering support, empathy, and ability to see the good in everyone. Her incredible generosity was felt by all those lucky enough to know her.
Not only was Sharon a woman of faith, but she was a woman of worldly curiosity. She had a deep love for reading books and learning about those living lives different from her own.
Sharon was a woman of many talents, interests, and hobbies. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, enjoyed exploring the depths of her family ancestry, taking immense pride in her Norwegian heritage, watching Jeopardy with Carl, rosemaling, and solving crossword puzzles. She dedicated many years of hard work to Parkway Floral, now co-owned and run by her granddaughter Carly. She was an animal lover, accordion player, and knitter.
Sharon’s legacy of love and compassion will continue to inspire us all. She will be missed and forever remembered in our hearts as a role model of compassion, faith, and kindness.
Family and friends are invited to honor Sharon’s remarkable life at a visitation on Friday, October 30th, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Molthen-Bell Funeral Home in South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM.
Sharon had a profound effect on all of our lives, and we will miss her more than words can express.
"She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue." Proverbs 31:25-26.
