Robert John Whitney passed away peacefully at age 79, on October 1st 2021, in presence of loving family.
"Bob" was born to artistic parents Elizabeth "Betty" and John "Jac" Whitney on May 30th 1942 in Detroit, Michigan, where he went on to study communications at Wayne State University. As a media professional who taught practical applications of cable television production, Bob influenced many people to share their ideas.
Bob is survived by his beloved children Liesel (James) Schulte, Joshua, Corinne, Erica, and Justin (Julie) Whitney, his grandchildren Truman, Elora, and Ryan, and former spouses Ann and Bobbie. He was exceptionally proud of his children and grand children and their various accomplishments. Bob will be fondly remembered by many special friends and acquaintances, a number of extended families, most especially by his sister Katheryn "Kitty" (Thomas) McKelvey, and her sons David, Jonathan, and William.
An enthusiast of all things science fiction and NASA, Bob was also an admirer of model trains, art, and music. He enjoyed the advent of computer technology innovation, and cherished Mac/Apple products.
Bob was an ardent activist in regards to environmental, humanitarian, and democratic causes alike, including but not limited to the Sierra Club, Amnesty International, Planned Parenthood, and the ACLU.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions/donations/support be sent to one of the aforementioned organizations.
