Phillip Ralph Devlin passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 27
th
at the age of 73. The second of 5 children of Edward and Catherine Devlin in Jackson Heights, Queens, New York. He along with his parents and siblings lived in New York, California, Kansas, Florida, Alabama, Okinawa, Japan, finally residing in Mount Holly, NJ. They were a military family and Catherine raised them to be polite and on time!
A 1968 graduate of Rancocas Valley Regional High School he was on the football, wrestling and tennis teams, joined the choir and was actively involved in student life. Through the loving direction of his Aunt Jack and Uncle Hockey, he chose Marquette University and was the first in his high school class to be accepted into college. Phil graduated from Marquette with a finance degree and furthered his education there with a Masters of Business Administration. He loved Marquette and was a proud Warrior. In 1972 after graduation from college, he was drafted into the US Army, serving on active and reserve duty for the next 6 years.
In 1988 he sweetly asked a lovely lass Colleen to dance. He did love to dance! Their love story blossomed from there. They were married on May 19, 1990. He had to promise they would get a Golden Retriever named Bob. He was a true romantic, sent flowers just because and brought her corsages for many of their first dates. Together they travelled, entertained, cooked, and raised four very beloved dogs, Bob, Wally, Seamus and Finn. Both voracious readers, they were part of a book club for more than 30 years.
For 34 years they had a full and beautiful life together. Surrounding them was a wonderful community of family, friends, and neighbors.
Phil retired in 2017 as Vice President in Commercial Banking at Wells Fargo. For many years he was the top lender in the Midwest region and was recognized throughout Wells Fargo for his work. While with Wells Fargo he was very active in the Racine Kiwanis Club, serving as President and Treasurer. During his tenure he was honored with the prestigious George S. Hixson Fellow award. He was very committed to community service and civic engagement by being on the South Shore YMCA board, Saint Francis Library board, Airport Gateway Business Association and as an election poll worker. In his retirement, he played golf, took up his guitar again, volunteered for the Bay View Community Center and WMSE.
Phil loved many things but first and foremost were Colleen and his only daughter, Kelly. He was a proud of his Irish heritage and read voraciously on the topic. Phil even learned some Gaelic through the Irish Fest Hedge School. A sure bet that if you bought him anything to wear, green was the best color. He attended Irish Fest in Milwaukee every year and made a spreadsheet of music, talks and ceilis he would be sure not to miss. He loved a spreadsheet! Phil was a master at puns. He taught his daughter well.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Catherine, his brothers Edward and John, Brothers-in-Law Richard Schloesser and Dick Conrow, and his Mother-in-Law, Bernice Adamski. He is survived by his wife Colleen, his daughter Kelly and his beloved dog, Finn. He is further survived by his siblings, Marsha Pangle (Steve) and Jim, Sisters-in-Law Kathy Conrow and Mary Schloesser, nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. He is deeply missed but was an amazing, kind, and generous man. Phil will live forever in our hearts and memories.
