Mae Joan Sazama, a cherished educator and beloved member of her community, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2026, at the age of 93. Mae's long and fulfilling life began on Tuesday, May 24, 1932, when she was born to Clarence and Erna Rohlinger. Her journey was marked by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to nurturing young minds.
Mae dedicated her professional life to the Milwaukee school system, serving as an elementary teacher. Her passion for education and her students left an indelible mark on all who entered her classroom.
Her personal life was as joyous and vibrant as her professional one. Mae was a passionate genealogist, spending countless hours tracing her family's roots and stories, which she generously shared with those around her. Knitting was another of her great loves; it was said that she could knit as effortlessly as breathing, creating beautiful pieces for friends and family that will be treasured for generations.
Mae's passion for gardening was well-known in her neighborhood. Each year, she meticulously planted rows of red geraniums and white petunias, crafting a living tapestry that brought joy to all who passed by her home.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Erna Rohlinger, and her beloved husband, Joe Sazama. Mae now leaves behind her son, Carl, who carries forward her legacy of love, intellect, and kindness.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Mae's remarkable life and legacy. Arrangements are being handled by Molthen-Bell & Son Funeral Home, where services will honor Mae's many contributions to her community and the countless lives she touched.
