José Hernandez Flores. Born in Crystal City, Texas on March 24, 1940. Final salute in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 15, 2026. He died as he lived, surrounded by love. José led a beautiful life. He was kind, caring, gentle, soft-spoken, determined, hardworking, brave, faith-filled, strong, handsome, artistic, clever, funny, and incredibly loving.
He served his country, alongside his brother Juan, in the Army. He worked for over 40 years at Jaeger Baking Company. He was an accomplished handyman and craftsman. He was a champion bowler, although he never did quite get that perfect 300 score. He loved playing golf, watching the Brewers, dancing, and a good game of Scrabble. But more than anything he loved the life he built with his beloved wife Rose. They were together for 63 years and married for 61. José and Rose (aka Hose A and Hose B) accomplished a lot together, but nothing more important to him than the friends and family that they made. They were a partnership admired by all who witnessed their love. José was also known as Pop, Dad, Papa Hosey, Uncle Charlie, Hosalinker, Pepé, Uncle Joe, and Mr. Flores. When he was being annoying Rose called him Joseph.
José was a beloved father, Godfather, grandfather, friend, neighbor, brother, uncle, and husband. He will be missed by many loved ones including his wife Rose; his children David, Steven and Tammy, and Rita and Steve; his grandchildren Lisa, Alek, Olivia, Lou, Lola, and Natalia; his siblings Juan and Margarita, and Juanita; his sister-in-law Brenda Flores and brother-in-law Jim Ayala; countless nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. He was welcomed into Heaven by his brothers Tony, Gilbert, and Robert; and his parents Juan Antonio and Petra.
With love and grace José understood that some people come into your life for only a season, like Tommy who he and Rose raised and nurtured. He welcomed and loved those who became family to him including Jessica, Padrino Dave, Leo, and Kacelyn. Anyone lucky enough to be part of José’s life over the last 86 years was touched by his loving, warm, and generous spirit.
