Jon A. Kolar passed away surrounded by family, on December 1, 2025, at the age of 75. Beloved husband of Nancy for 33 years. Cherished father of Heather Dishinger, Alison (Cory) Carlson, and Jeff (Jackie) Kolar; and loving step-father to Burt (Jimmy) Gross, Lisa (Tony) Miedema, and Heidi (Derek) Dietrich. Proud grandpa to John III, Rhiannon, Ryan, Emily, Cayden, Jiliann, Jakob, Nathan, Dylan, Joshua, and Natalie; and great-grandpa to Malakai. Dear brother of the late Greg, and survived by siblings Kris (Gordy), Debra, and Kenny. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
Jon had a deep love for his family and was always there if you needed him. He was well known for his love of sun and open water. Whether he was pulling grandkids on a tube, casting a line, or soaking in the sun, the lake was his favorite place to be. As the years went on, his interests grew and changed, but one thing never did, Jon was always ready for a great conversation. He especially loved talking about hot rods, Harleys, or anything with a motor in it, and often held “union meetings” with the neighbors on the front porch.
When he wasn’t on the water, Jon could often be found at his grandkids events or working out at the gym. His family lovingly called him “the mayor of the gym,” because of the number of friends he made talking with everyone around him while getting his workout in.
To know Jon was to love him. He had a gift for making friends everywhere he went, whether you knew him for a lifetime or a single conversation, his warmth and personality left a lasting mark on your soul. Though he has left us physically, the memories he created along the way will live on forever in all who were lucky enough to have known him. Visitation at St. Stephen the Martyr Lutheran Church on December 8 from 10 am to 12 pm with a funeral service at noon.
