October 16, 1936- February 14, 2025.
John was the second son of John and Leona Clark. Their first son, Paul, died during childbirth. John was born in Kenosha but spent his growing years in South Milwaukee. He loved reading and spent almost every weekend at Milwaukee Public Museum. He graduated from Marquette University High school in 1954. After this he enrolled in St Francis Seminary where he spent the next eight years in preparation for the Roman Catholic priesthood. After ordination he was assigned to St John de Nepomuc. After this first assignment he was sent to St Rose Parish in the Marquette University High School area. His final assignment was Mother of Perpetual Health located at 54
th
and Villard Avenue.
This was a time of great tumult in the church. At this point, John fell in love with Benita Dimas and his love affair lasted 46 years. After John stepped aside from the priesthood, he went back to school, took further courses and became a certified rehabilitation counselor. With his background he was able to establish almost all the group homes for the mentally ill and challenged in Milwaukee County. With her educational background, Benita was able to supply the educational dimensions to this Independent Living Program. Benita, because she was bilingual, was able to establish the first bilingual special educational program for the Milwaukee Public school system.
John and Benita together continued their ministry in the world. They shared a love of gardening, and their South Milwaukee backyard was filled with flowers and tomatoes, much enjoyed by their friends and neighbors. Together they arranged that their assets would fund a long-lasting scholarship at University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee for students who major in education.
In lieu of flowers, donations to St Paul's Episcopal Church or Doctor's Without Borders would be appreciated. John loved his church family very much. Funeral Mass will be at St Paul's Episcopal Church (914 E Knapp St. Milwaukee) on March 22 at 2 PM.
