On October 6th, Hubert Adrian Krawczyk II, better known as Hubie, crossed the finish line in his marathon against cancer and moved onto his greatest event. Hubie was a loving husband, caring parent and a source of inspiration for many people as he pursued his lifelong ambition of physical fitness through duathlons, marathons, triathlons, biking, playing and teaching tennis, and ownership of Spire Fitness in Milwaukee. Hubie was a man of the masses and always maintained a positive attitude as he encouraged others in his own unique way, embodying self-betterment via competition with oneself and was able to see the potential in all people he encountered throughout his life regardless of their abilities. His accomplishments were many. Hubie graduated from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1987 with a bachelor's degree in Recreation and Administration. A veteran of numerous Iron Man, biking and marathon events, he organized and participated in The Freedom Run across America for Veterans and while in remission in 2023, he qualified for the Iron Man 70.3 World Championship in Madison, WI, which allowed him to compete and cross the finish line in New Zealand in 2024. His ownership of Spire Fitness and the inspiration he provided to his clients led many people to improve their physical fitness and thus their quality of life. The role model Hubie became provided his nieces, nephews, friends and relatives the invaluable life skills of goal setting and perseverance in the face of adversity. Hubie is survived by his wife of 37+ years, best friend and love of his life of 50 years, Sue; and their son Cal and daughter Madeline.
Our dad was an absolute legend! We are very grateful to have spent all our lives with him, surrounded by his inspiration, happiness and so many good times. Let his legacy be a reminder to always be nice to others and to always go for gold! "Rock on!"
Preceded in death by his parents, the late Hubert and Mae (nee Marks); Hubie, aka Bert, is also survived by siblings Celeste (Robert), Thomas (Lois), Elizabeth (the late Greg), Joseph (Maryellen) and William; and brothers-in-law Michael, Brian (Patty) and Joseph. Bert was an athlete indeed, but to us he was so much more. A brother who always had a crush on his wife, a father of two kids who were his heart, and a lover of plants that grew on vines, the bands Genesis and King Crimson, Montana and the West, stray kittens, pie and of course, peanut butter. He was always up for a cold one with family and friends and he truly loved life and people. Well done Hubie! You may have beat all of us across the finish line of life, but your inspiration and love will remain with us until our own races are done. We will miss you, brother, till we meet again…for another round of knock hockey!
