Harold N. Schroeder, 87, passed away on July 21, 2026, at Ascension Hospital Hospice Care in Franklin, WI surrounded by his loving family. Harold was born on 11-01-1938 to Alfred and Sophie (Andrejeski) Schroeder in Milwaukee and moved to Town of Lake in Milwaukee County as a child. His parents became farmers/caretakers for the Sisters of St. Francis Assisi farm until 1953 when they moved to Cudahy, WI. He graduated from Cudahy High School in 1957.
Harold married Barbara Ann Schmidt in 1960 at Holy Family Church in Cudahy. They lived in Cudahy until buying their home in Oak Creek where they and their children lived until Harold and Barbara moved to Seneca on the west side of Wisconsin.
Harold served his Country by enlisting in the Wisconsin National Guard 32nd Division in 1959, training in Missouri, California, and Washington State but his unit was not called up to active duty overseas.
Harold had always wanted to be a truck driver. In 1964 he was hired by Advance Transportation Co. where he enjoyed driving the highways and being a Teamster until he retired in 1995. After having triple bypass open heart surgery, he decided it was time to relax and enjoy life.
While living in Oak Creek, Harold was a very active member of St. Matthew's Parish especially in Boy Scouts, Cubs through Explorers, earning the Milwaukee County Silver Beaver Award and many others. He was very proud of the Canadian camping/canoeing trips Troop #251 took and encouraged the boys of St. Matthew to be the best they could be. He served on the Parish Council and was one of 3 parishioners who began efforts and years of work to restore the little brick church built in the 1800's so it could still be used today. He always worked the Fish Boils up to 1996 and since his return to Oak Creek in 2020 . . . he missed the last one because of his health.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Thomas, Richard, Jerome, and Eugene, his sister-in-law Caroline and many other relatives and friends. Harold leaves behind Barbara, his wife of 66 years, and their children Deborah (Brian) Guthrie, Douglas (Diana) Schroeder, Michael (Nancy) Schroeder, and Judith (Randall) Leu, his sister Dorothy Schroeder, and his sisters-in-law Margaret Schroeder and Donna Schroeder, 11 grandchildren: Michael, Daniel (Allison), Rebecca (Andrew), Lee (Tricia), Sarah (Matthew), Rachel (Jeremy), Keri (Travis), Joshua (Hannah), Collin (Korey), Jacob, Susan (Logan), 11 great-grandchildren plus a new one on the way, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Harold was a loving and beloved husband and father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed being the joking uncle and enjoyed his extended family at all times. He will be sorely missed by his friends and neighbors in both southwestern and southeastern Wisconsin - the State he loved.
Visitation is in the Gathering Space at St. Matthew Church, 9303 S. Chicago Rd., Oak Creek on Wednesday, Aug. 5 from 5-7 p.m. and Thursday, Aug. 6 from 9:30-10:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are welcome to St. Matthew Church for continued renovation of the little brick church.
