Grace Beyers

August 14, 1917 — January 22, 2015

Grace Johanna Kundrath Beyers (nee Heis), Age 97, found rest in the Lord Thursday, January 22, 2015. She was welcomed into heaven by her beloved husband, Alexander B. Kundrath, and her second dearly loved husband, William G. Beyers; her beloved parents, Rudolph M. and Anna Voit Heis; her very dear great-aunt, Marie Putz Voit (called Mutti); all of her cherished siblings, Gladys (Stephen) Hasmonek, Ralph (Judith) Heis, Richard D. Heis (with whom she was very close) and Ruth (Robert) Inglis; and her dear brother-in-law Eugene Kundrath. Occupying center stage in her life are her much-loved nieces and god daughters, Joyce M. Hasmonek and April (John) Dimeo; as well as six other nieces and nephews, John (Joanne), Richard (Regina), David (Catherine) Hasmonek, Susan (Daniel) Furjanic, Ken (Ann) Heis and Patricia Inglis. Also cherishing her memory is the next generation of 14 great-nieces and great- nephews, Jeffrey, Matthew, Kelsey, Milan, Chloe, Sophia Grace and Lucas Hasmonek; Anthony, Adam, Austin, Zoe and Miranda Heis; and Angela and Lisa Beckmann. Overwhelming thanks to her very-devoted and skilled care-giver Mary Lou Vicentilla, and relief care-giver Marissa Dianquinary. Grace was born during World War I in Cleveland, Ohio and resided in Cudahy for over 80 Years. Although a second-generation American, she spoke only German until she attended school at age 5. She was one of the very few remaining members of the Cudahy High School Class of 1935. As a teen-ager, she worked in her family's bakery on Packard Avenue. After attending Wisconsin State Teachers College, she went to work for Westinghouse Appliances, Sales and Service Office. She retired at age 70. An early widow at age 50, she lived independently and re-married her long-time supervisor at Westinghouse, William Beyers, at age 88, after a lovely and old-fashioned courtship of several years. Grace was very active in her high school reunion committee, which planned many reunions after the 50th. She was also very involved with her Cudahy church, formerly St. Frederick. She loved playing bingo with her friends at the seniors club and traveling with the Vagabonds Club. The last time she played bingo at the retirement home, all five people at the table (including her niece and care-giver) were winners! Slot machines in casinos also provided much excitement to her. She went to Las Vegas for the last time at age 95, and attended a Neil Diamond concert there. Grace was very generous to her family and considered the request of every legitimate charity who reached out to her. It may have been a widow's mite, but for many years, she regularly supported many Catholic charities, the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, the Parkinson's Association, and other medical and charitable organizations. A long life, lived well. She is deeply missed. Visitation Friday, January 30, 2015 at the funeral home from 9:30-10:45. Mass of Christian Burial at Nativity of the Lord (4611 S. Kirkwood Ave, Cudahy) Friday at 12 pm. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery.
