Eugene "Gene" Pfeffer

With deep love, we announce the passing of Eugene Henry Pfeffer, age 90, of Cudahy, Wisconsin, who passed away surrounded in love on September 7, 2026.

Born on August 4, 1936, in Milton, North Dakota, to Nicholas and Leah Pfeffer, Gene was the second youngest of nine children. Gene was drafted into the Army and spent 2+ years based in Germany as a munitions officer. During that stint, he enjoyed traveling by train all around Europe, exploring the beer offerings. The highlight was visiting his Pfeffer relatives in Austria. While they couldn’t speak each other’s language very well, they ate good food and drank homemade wine while pointing out family members in photos. After being discharged, he met the love of his life, Pat, and they were blessed with three daughters. During the years of raising the kids, they went on many a camping adventure and drove across the country visiting relatives along the way. Gene had a long career as a supervisor at Louis Allis/Magnetek in Bay View.

He will be remembered for his fun-loving nature, warmth, quiet strength, generosity, humility, and unwavering devotion to his family. Gene leaves behind a legacy through his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom held a special place in his heart. Family was at the center of his life. He showed up, time and time again, never missing a special event and traveling countless miles to offer his love, encouragement, and support.

He was a cherished husband and dear friend to Patricia Pfeffer (née Kalinowski) and a proud father to Beth (Randy) Pfeffer, Lara (Fred) Pfeffer, and Amy (Greg) Pfeffer. He was a cherished grandfather to Adam Hammis, Molly Hammis, Zoë (Brad) Ramlow, Lillian Kopplin, Elliott Kopplin, Lydia (Joseph) King, and Skyler King. He was also blessed with great-grandchildren Saige, Josephine, Kai, Meggie, and Benjamin.

Most weekends, Gene could be found on the golf course chasing the elusive hole-in-one. He loved a good game of cribbage or backgammon, a favorite past time with his daughters, grandchildren and friends. Every August 4th, no birthday celebration was complete without an endless supply of blueberry pie. His favorite stop was Leon’s Custard for a scoop or two of butter pecan.

Gene is survived by siblings Donna Jane, Anna Mae, and Leonard. He is further survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Gene was preceded in death by his parents Nicholas and Leah, and siblings Barbara, Maxine, Kenneth, James and Louis, as well as his eldest grandson and golf buddy, Adam Hammis. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Franciscan Villa Gardens Assisted Living, Horizon Hospice Palliative Care, and St Luke’s Medical Center for the loving care and compassion they provided during Gene's final two years.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Gene's life on Friday September 11, 2026 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church from 10 to 11 am with Mass at 11 am. If you know Gene, you know he loved wearing bright colors. Please honor him by wearing your favorite color or your Packers shirt. Gene's kindness, humor, and steadfast love will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
