Carol Marie Johnston (née Gates), aged 92, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2024, in South Milwaukee, WI. Born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 19, 1932, Carol dedicated her life to her family and career, enriching the lives of those around her with her matriarchal presence and indomitable spirit. Carol spent her career at West Allis Memorial Hospital in Wisconsin as a Health Unit Coordinator, where she was respected for her dedication and hard work. Her personal interests included gardening, playing cards, board games, and reading; all hobbies that brought her joy and relaxation. She leaves behind a legacy of love and perseverance, survived by her children, Scott Johnston, Ted Johnston (Georgette) and Gail Coon (Brandan); sister, Susan Gates; and grandchildren, Cindy Crawford, Joseph , Frank and step-grand daughter Courtney. Carol was a beloved friend to a few close people at Marquette Manor, including her beloved friend/ sister Helen Pari. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Johnston Sr., son James Johnston Jr., and brother Richard Gates Jr. A small family ceremony will be held at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Springfield, Missouri, where she will be laid to rest alongside her husband and son at a date to be announced. The family has entrusted Molthen Bell Funeral Home in South Milwaukee with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The American Foundation for the Blind, honoring Carol's compassion and spirit of helping others.
