Oak Creek

Betty Jean Bates, a devoted wife, loving mother, cherished grandmother, and beloved member of the Oak Creek community, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 17, 2026, at the age of 91. Born on October 6, 1934, Betty was a beacon of warmth, love, and kindness throughout life.

She was the treasured daughter of the late Arthur James Halbrooks and Clida Vesta Halbrooks. She shared more than 70 wonderful years of marriage with her dear husband, John W. Bates, who preceded her in death. Together, they built a family grounded in love, resilience, and enduring values. Betty was also preceded in death by one of her four children, John P. Bates.

Betty is survived by her children — Charlotte E. Sauer, David W. Bates, and Teddy A. Bates — Betty's legacy lives on through her family. She took immense joy and pride in her grandchildren Dillon, Austin, Dalton, Nick, Kendra, Adam, and Marcie, and her heart was filled with love for her 13 great-grandchildren.

She was a really good cook, independent, brave, and incredibly hard-working, always the first to lend a hand and the last to leave a family gathering. She enjoyed watching movies and found comfort in the company of classic, film and spending every moment possible with her beloved husband and family.

She will be dearly missed by all whose lives she touched with her gentle spirit and unwavering love. Betty will forever remain in the hearts of those who cherished her.
