Obituary for Wanda Carol Sakovitz

Carol Gottfried Sakovitz
September 19, 1929 – October 16, 2020

Carol Gottfried Sakovitz passed away peacefully at her home on Friday, October 16, 2020 at the age of 91. She joins her parents, Michael and Albina Gottfried, her beloved sister and brother-in-law, Adeline and Harold Van Vlaenderen, her Uncle John Gottfried, her Aunt Francis Halla, her nephew Jim’s wife, Ginny Van Vlaenderen, and her great-nephew, Ted Van Vlaenderen, in eternal peace.

Carol is survived by 5 nephews who she adored: Ed (Marge) Van Vlaenderen, Jim Van Vlaenderen, Gary Van Vlaenderen, Dennis (George) Van Vlaenderen, and Reverend Len Van Vlaenderen. She is also survived by three wonderful great nephews: Randy (Kim) Van Vlaenderen, Michael (Tina) Van Vlaenderen, and Jacob (Em) Van Vlaenderen. Carol was additionally blessed with two great, great nieces – Savannah and Amanda - and three great, great nephews – Jack, Joey, and Levi.

Carol was blessed to have many people who cared about her. She will be greatly missed by her cousin, Linda (Mike) Matrise and their daughter, Lisa, as well as her best friend since her childhood in Geneseo, North Dakota, Mary Ann Fugiel. Carol will also be dearly missed by friends David and Chris Dzubinski, Mary Beth Sulik, Gina Pignatello, Ellen Heitman, and Phillip and Lynne Roy.

Carol was a woman of deep faith. She did simple things with great love. She embraced life as she helped to raise her five nephews. And, she absolutely loved her dog, Scooby (who also misses her dearly and now sleeps in her chair)! She loved going to Montello with her wonderful nephew, Dennis and his partner, George. She enjoyed travelling the world with her nephew, Len, as he served as Chaplain on various cruise ships. Carol was blessed to live in the family home until the end and to be cared for by her family – especially her beloved nephew, Len, who lived with her.

The family would like to thank Lynne Roy for her help during this trying time as well as Bonnie Johnson, and Carol’s exceptional healthcare team at Aurora Home Hospice.

A private service to celebrate Aunt Carol’s life will be held for immediate family.

Take my heart, O Lord, take my hopes and dreams.
Take my mind with all its plans and schemes.
Give me nothing more than your love and grace.
These alone, O God, are enough for me.
