Obituary for Susana Magdalena Rubio de Suarez (Rubio Villalba)

Susana M Rubio de Suarez, age 85, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, surrounded by her children. She was born in Huamachuco, Peru on July 22, 1937, daughter of the late Javier and the late Susana (Villalba) Rubio. She was preceded in death by her husband Jaime in November 2021.

She graduated with a degree in Public Accounting from the National University of Trujillo. She worked as a Certified Public Accountant and was named Comptroller shortly before she selflessly gave up her career and became a stay-at-home mom to raise her children.

She married the love of her life, Jaime Suarez Loyola, on August 22, 1965. She is survived by their 4 children; Jaime Ricardo (Judith) Suarez Rubio, Susy Luisa (Ron) Suarez Lemcke, Silvia Milagritos (Richard Chojnacki) Suarez Rubio, and Rafael Fernando (Rina Lopez) Suarez Rubio. She is also survived by her grandchildren; Jimena Milagros Suarez de Garcia, Jaime Francisco Suarez Guarniz, Miguel Fernando Suarez Villacorta, Katherine Lemcke, Samantha Lemcke and Kristina Lemcke.

Susana was affectionately known to her family and American friends as Mamita, Peruvian term of endearment for the most beloved mother. She was famous for her homemade spaghetti sauce which she would simmer for hours on Sundays; and her “carabanitas”, deep fried pastry with sugar glazed that required the whole family to work together due to being so labor intensive and so scrumptious.

Susana raised her children with love and strong family values and led them by example married to Jaime for over 56 years of idyllic happiness. She always helped and encouraged her children, and up until the end, her main concern was the wellbeing of her loved ones. Deeply devout Roman Catholic, she pledged her allegiance to The Lord of Miracles (Señor de los Milagros) and wore the mandatory purple habit throughout the month of October every year. She had the voice of an angel and loved singing at Church and at home. She enjoyed dancing with her very talented husband and stole the show at many parties especially when Paso Doble was played.

Susana was a “guerrera” (fighter) as her children called her. To know her was to be in the presence of absolute determination, strength, courage and indomitable faith. Diagnosed with cancer in 2019, she fought Valiantly and Bravely and never once complained. Doctors and nurses marveled at her resiliency and determination. Devoted wife, loving mother, and unconditional friend, it was a privilege to be in her presence. The many memories we hold dear in our hearts will never be enough to fill the void left by her departure.

Mamita, you will be missed dearly every single day for the rest of our lives, but we take comfort knowing that you are once again reunited with your “viejito” as you called dad. What an honor to have our Lord called you to His presence during Holy Week. We know, truly, that heaven has gained a beautiful Angel.

The pain is indescribable. The loss is immeasurable.

Supistes amarnos, protegernos como
Una protectora hace con sus hijos
Son esa clase de madre guerrera que
Algunos la tienen a su lado, pero
Nunca la exaltan, valoran, aprecian y
Amaran como tus hijos lo hicieron
