Obituary for Sally D Gabriel

Sally Diane Maynard Gabriel passed away on June 18th, 2022 at the age of 87. Sally was born in Saginaw, Michigan, oldest of 2 daughters to Lloyd and Teresa Maynard.

Sally is preceded in death by sister Ruth Grabowski, her loving son Paul, and her gentle grandson Robert. She is survived by her caring husband Robert, her dearest daughters June (Wayne Shoemaker) and Diane (Richard Lange), her cherished daughter-in-law Vicki Gabriel, her loving son Stephen (Jaqui Gabriel) and her neighbor, friend and angel to the end, Shirley Kendziorski. Sally had seven grand children (Jessica, Robert John, Chelsea, Alex, Celine, Nicole and Claudia), five great grandchildren (Courtney, Gabriel, Cody, Jacob and Sophia), and one great great grandchild, Lincoln.

Sally began her career in medical research in Ann Arbor with internships and the pursuit of a BS in Medical Technology. What began as an interest in medical research ended with Sally accepting position of Laboratory Manager at Fine-Lando Clinic in Cudahy. Sally loved her job and loved working in the lab with management, staff and patients. She took great delight in showing off her laboratory and her work to her children when they would stop by the lab for a visit. She was extremely organized and very detailed in both her career and personal life, which made it easy for her to skillfully balance her career with four children, a husband, cats, dogs, the house, and her personal interests. She elected to retire from Fine-Lando Clinic at the peak of her career in 1997 so she could devote time to enjoying life, performing arts, traveling and family.

Sally was an intelligent, driven, hard working, friendly and compassionate woman who will live forever in the hearts and memories of those who knew her. Sally loved her grandkids to death and looked forward to every moment that she spent with them. Sally never had an unpleasant word to say about anyone and easily made friends wherever she went. Sally was blessed with the desire to help people and easily recognized when friends and family were experiencing personal struggles. She would go out of her way to selflessly helped where she could.

Sally and family moved to Germany in the 60’s, and the family spent every moment of a year and a half traveling and taking in the sights and cultures. After Germany, Sally and family moved to Michigan and then eventually to Wisconsin, settling in South Milwaukee. Sally and Bob discovered Hilton Head in the 80’s and made yearly trips there, loving the sights and sounds, the ocean, and the restaurants on the island. Sally and Bob hosted a family reunion in 1990 on Hilton Head to celebrate their 35th wedding anniversary. Fifteen years later, Bob and Sally celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in Dayton, OH at deceased son Paul and Vicki’s house. Sally’s hobbies and interests included traveling, gardening, playing cards, reading, cooking, performing arts, museums, and entertaining. She also loved cats and Emma, a beautiful tabby, was the first of many.

Sally is already dearly missed as a confidant, a neighbor, a friend, a co-worker, a mother, a grandmother, a great grandmother and a wife.

A visitation is scheduled from 2:00 to 4:00 PM on Friday, August 26th, at Molthen-Bell Funeral home in South Milwaukee.
