Obituary for Raymond Edward Fitzgerald
Raymond Edward Fitzgerald of Oak Creek, WI died Sunday, September 11, 2022, just after his 91st birthday. He was the loving and devoted husband of Virginia Fitzgerald (nee Swan) for the last 69 years.
Born in Lyndon Station, WI, Raymond graduated as Valedictorian from Necedah High School, where he was also a talented athlete, particularly in basketball. He joined the US Army, stationed at Fort Riley, KS, and trained as an X-Ray Technician. He began his life-long career as a Machinist by apprenticing at the Milwaukee Road and then working at the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. Here he also served as Vice Chairman of the Journal Credit Union Board and United Way Captain. Following his retirement, he continued his service through volunteering at Human Concerns in South Milwaukee as well as a local hospital.
Raymond was a dedicated and beloved father who encouraged his children in their education and other endeavors. He always showed his children, and subsequently grandchildren, how proud he was of them. He loved to travel and instilled this love in his children. Raymond was also a crossword puzzle fan and avid reader, continuing to read the daily newspaper all his life.
In addition to his wife, Raymond is survived by his children, Tim Fitzgerald and wife Joan, Kevin Fitzgerald and wife Jill, Colleen Duffy and husband William; his grandchildren, Megan Marsceau, Eimile Mabry, Troy Nelson, Jessica O’Brien, Jennifer Warfield, Zach Mitschrich, and Ryan Duffy; and his great-grandchildren, Presley, Levi, and Jasper. He is preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and sisters, his daughter, Kathy Fitzgerald, and grandson, Jack Duffy.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, September 21 at 11:00 am followed by a Memorial Service at Molthen-Bell & Son Funeral Home, 700 Milwaukee Avenue, South Milwaukee, WI 53172.
