Obituary for Muriel T. Schultz (Tessman)

Muriel T. Schultz joined her beloved husband, Blaine, on August 5, 2021, when she went to her heavenly home. She was only 46 days short of her 100th birthday. Her family counts her as a centurion though that was not a goal she ever wanted for herself. Muriel Eleanor Tessman Schultz was born to William F. Tessman and Mabel M. Erickson Tessman on September 20, 1921 in Elkwood, North Dakota.

Muriel spent most of her youth in Larimore, ND and Detroit Lakes, MN , graduating from Detroit Lakes High school in 1939. She then attended Dakota Business College in Fargo, ND from 1939-1940. During this time she met the love of her life, Blaine Schultz, at a dance at the Crystal Ballroom where big bands played every Wednesday night. Their courtship was interrupted when Blaine was inducted into the US Army Air Corp shortly after Pearl Harbor. Letters and rare phone calls had to suffice maintaining their relationship. Blaine proposed on the phone and mailed her the engagement ring when she said yes! Blaine and Muriel were married on September 3, 1944 in Inglewood, CA during a brief leave before he was sent overseas to planes out of Casablanca and Tripoli in North Africa for 13 months. Muriel contributed to the war efforts, working for Douglas Aircraft in El Segundo CA from 1942-1945. When Blaine was discharged in December 1945, they drove back to ND over the Christmas holidays. Blaine resumed his college degree in electrical engineering degree at North Dakota State College, graduating in 1947. The young couple then moved to South Milwaukee where Blaine began his career with Line Material, a company he stayed with until his retirement at age 62.

During the years that followed Muriel was a consummate wife and mother, raising their children Judy, Larry and Geoff, volunteering with school organizations and as an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Cudahy, WI since 1958. There she was involved in various committees including the banner committee, volunteering at the Bradley Center for the church, as a greeter and more. Both she and Blaine also served many years on election day at the polls which they felt was an important part of their civic responsibilities. She enjoyed gardening, knitting, crocheting and stitchery, bridge and reading. She walked over 2 miles a miles a day well into her mid-90’s. And she was a fabulous cook and baker- fresh cookies were always present in her kitchen! They built their home on Elm Ave. in 1951, and grew their lives and family there and are the final original homeowners owners in the neighborhood.

Muriel was preceded in death by her parents, sister Evelyn Tessman, brothers Russel and Stanley Tessman, grandson Bradley Zuhlke and her beloved husband and best friend, Blaine Schultz. She is survived by daughter Judith (Jeff) Tobolski, son Lawrence (Joan) Schultz, son Geoffrey (Sue Waudby, finace) Schultz, grandson Eric Schultz, granddaughters Katherine (Ron) Myers, Amy Zuhlke Field, Jennifer (Keith) Dow and Jiliane (Robert) Harmes. Further, she is survived by great grandchildren Noah and Gabriel Schultz, Ronald and Moira Myers, Lilianna Mudd, and Nolan and Liam Dow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested for St. John Lutheran Church, 4850 S. Lake Dr., Cudahy WI 53110 or a charity of your choice.
