Obituary for Mario "Mike" Del Rosso

With great sorrow, the family of Mike Del Rosso announces his passing at age 87 on October 28, 2017. Mike was born on November 18, 1929, in Chicago, son of Alice and Mario Del Rosso. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Lola Jean; daughter Diana (David Felland); son-in-law Steve Calhoun (Shyla). He doted on his grandchildren Eric, Nicholas, Matthew, and Michael Felland, Patrick and Nora Calhoun, Hannah and Ben Lautenschlaeger. He was preceded in death in 2011 by his younger daughter, Darlene, as well his parents, and stepfather, Douglas Young. Mike grew up in Lake Geneva, Wis., and spent his adult life in South Milwaukee. He taught chemistry, physics and earth science at South Milwaukee High School for almost 30 years. He was a 1948 graduate of Lake Geneva High School, served his country in the Air Force during the Korean War, and attended Whitewater State Teachers College on the GI Bill. Mike married his college sweetheart, Lola Jean Jensen in 1954, and graduated from college in 1956, later earning a master’s degree from the University of Northern Iowa. His youthful days spent working on Lake Geneva’s tourist boats resulted in history columns written for the Lake Geneva Regional News, later collected in his book, Geneva Days. He will live on in our hearts.
