Obituary for Leslie Champagne

Leslie Champagne, age 86, passed away on October 22, 2023

Loving husband to Ione (nee Armbruster) for 66 years. Dear father to Gail (David) Prohaska, Dale (Michele) Champagne, Christine (Chris) Chomicki and the late Shari (Benon) Chomicki. Grandfather to Robert (Shannon) Prohaska, Matthew (Catherine) Prohaska, Nicholas (fiancé Kristina Ott) Champagne, Joshua Chomicki (Megan Tennant), and Zachary Chomicki. Great-Grandfather to Claire Prohaska, Caleb Prohaska, Benjamin Prohaska, and Eli Prohaska.
Preceded in death by his parents, Alex and Agnes Champagne, and 3 siblings, Gerald Champagne, Maxine Jansen, and Cheryl Schubert. Survived by brother Wayne (Lois) Champagne and sister Audrey Jansen and other relatives.

Leslie and Ione raised their family in South Milwaukee, living in the home they built for almost 60 years. At which time they moved into assisted living since it was getting harder to maintain their home. Leslie retired from Bucyrus-Erie in 1999. At that time, Leslie and Ione did a lot of traveling, enjoying trips to Alaska, Hawaii, and many coach trips throughout the states.  He also enjoyed his many visits to various casinos, both in and outside of Wisconsin. His family meant a lot to him and he loved spending time with them. He also enjoyed going out to eat, his favorites being steak and crab legs.

While not a man of many words, he was always quick to come back with a witty response and enjoyed teasing banter with those around him. The family would like to thank the staff at Harbour Village for the care he received in the past 6 months but especially Cindy and the staff at Allay Home & Hospice who helped Leslie maintain his independence for as long as he could throughout his final two months. While he is no longer physically among us, he will be forever in the hearts of his family and friends.

Visitation will be held on October 30th, 2023, from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m., followed by a mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m.  This will be held at Divine Mercy Parish in South Milwaukee located at 800 Marquette Avenue.
