Obituary for Joy Sahagian

July 31, 1929 – June 4, 2022
Resided in South Milwaukee, WI

Joy J. Sahagian (nee Ottman) peacefully passed away in the early morning hours of June 4, 2022 at the age of 92. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to many.

Joy loved her family with all her heart and was always a busy, cleaning, cooking, baking, embroidering, crocheting, and crafting go-getter and was willing to help others and be available when needed. Joy was the maker of the K-Bars, and the best potato salad at the picnics, the baker of the apple slices, the embroiderer of the flour sack dish towels, and the crocheter of the afghans.

Joy loved to sing and participated in the United Methodist Choir in her earlier years. Her most favorite time was performing the Cantata’s during the Easter and Christmas seasons. She loved to go to the hobo dinners and take her best casseroles for all to enjoy.

Joy loved spending her time in Crivitz in their home on Lake Noquebay. Hours were spent leisurely enjoying her friends and family that lived around there, going on the boat when she could and enjoying her down time away from the house in South Milwaukee.

Going out for breakfast with John (dad) was the highlight of both their days, and her Friday night fish-fry was the highlight of her Friday evenings with the love of her life John for date night. Joy spent years in her Human Resource career at Bucyrus-Erie, an American surface and underground mining equipment company, whose headquarters was re-located to South Milwaukee in 1893 from Bucyrus, Ohio. She loved and excelled in her work there and learned to know quite personally most employees and their families and friends. Many whom have since passed and will also be truly missed. Joy taught her children to be their own persons, and how to be domesticated in their daily lives and how to be responsible and self-sufficient in many ways.

Beloved wife of the late John (“Hotch” Sahagian). Loving mother of Jae (the late Robin) Hamlin, Jean (Adrian) Marsden, and James (Tamra) Sahagian. Proud grandmother of Daniel (Phaedra) Sahagian, Nicholas Sahagian, Shelby (Tyler) Bowe, and Elyssa Marsden. Sister of Carol (the late Charles) Yauch, Jane (the late Phil) Weber, and Rose (the late Leo) Burke. Preceded in death by her siblings Bernadine (the late Arthur) Tommet, Leo (Karen) Ottman, and Leon Ottman. Further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

The Sahagian family would like to thank all the staff at Azura Memory Care of Oak Creek, along with their many providers to include Bluestone Physicians; and St. Croix Hospice for all the services and support given during the last three years and last few days of Joy’s life. A special thank you would like to be extended to the loving, caring and most spectacular caregivers that have been with the family for so many years prior to Joy’s placement at Azura. Special blessings for that time go out to Patty Chitwood, Lynn Gunderson and other caregivers to include Angie, Rosie and Gina.
