Obituary for James C. Slaaen

James “Jim” Slaaen of South Milwaukee passed away peacefully at home after a long and courageous battle with prostate cancer on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at the age of 68.

Loving husband of Mary (nee Stuart) for over 42 years. Much loved “Pops” of Mark (Jodi), Matthew (Lindsey) and Meagan (Maurice Holmes). Proudest Grandpa of Marisa, Avery, Gavin and Evelyn Slaaen as well as Jacob Domagalski. Preceded in death by his parents William and Patricia and brother Jeffrey Slaaen. Further survived by sister-in-law Gloria Struck, Aunt and Uncle Barbara and Fred Praxel, Uncle Kene Struck, nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Jim had a long career as a truck driver retiring from XPO/Con-Way Freight Lines in 2014 with over 30 years safe driving logging in over 2 million miles. Jim was an avid Packers, Brewers and Bucks fan. He enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing and classic cars. Jim was a long time Harley enthusiast and so missed not being able to ride his bike due to his illness. It was well known that if the garage door was up it was an open invitation to stop and enjoy a beverage. The garage was Jim’s second home and was also the home of many exciting Packer games and many, many spirited discussions.

Jim was a hard working man who always made sure his family was taken care of and he loved them all so very much. Per Jim’s wishes there will be no service at this time. A Celebration of Life will be planned for a later date when we can all safely gather. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Andrew Wszelaki Memorial Foundation or the charity of your choice. Online condolences to Molthen-Bell & Sons Funeral Home.
