Obituary for Gloria Helgren

Cypress, Texas – Former Wisconsin resident Gloria Jean Helgren, 74, died July 2, 2021 at Houston Methodist Hospital, Houston Texas. She was born the third of three siblings on September 3, 1946 to the late Paul and Anna (Prelewicz) Olszewski. Gloria graduated from South Milwaukee High School in 1964 and received her BA in Education from Alverno College in 1992. She taught Kindergarten at St. James Catholic School in Mukwonago, and 3rd grade at Irving Elementary School in Milwaukee Public Schools.

Gloria was constantly decorating and redecorating. Professionally, after her teaching career, she opened a gift and fine furniture store called Anna’s Daughter, named after her mother. Here is where she continued to help others enjoy decorating. She relished trips to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula where she spent time at her lake house with family, as well as her many trips to Hawaii, and of course giving as much time and love to her grandchildren as possible. Her favorite activities included reading books, doing puzzles, relaxing by her pool, and babysitting her youngest grandchildren every Friday. If you have spent time with her, you would know her passion for a good laugh.

Gloria passed peacefully under the care of all her doctors at Houston Methodist Hospital. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Houston Methodist for the exceptional care they gave to her over the past years.

She is survived by her beloved husband Ralph of 54 years; 4 children Kimberly Jean (Greg) Kuzniewski, Mark (Kelly) Helgren, Jason (Alexis) Helgren, Zachary (Ashlee) Helgren, and grandchildren; Tyler Last, Katie (Kuzniewski) Smocke, Hannah Helgren, Megan Helgren, Madeline Helgren, and Connor Helgren. She will also be missed by Crystal Gillette, Alisha VerVooren, and Mark (Pam) VerVooren who were also a part of her family, and a sister Mary Alice Grineus.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother Leon Olszewski.

A celebration of life for Gloria Helgren will be held on Wednesday, July 21, from 9:00am to 11:00am at Molthen Bell Funeral Home, 700 Milwaukee Avenue, South Milwaukee, Wisconsin. A memorial service will follow with Father Joseph Sebastian presiding. On Friday, July 23 a visitation from 9:00am to 11:00am with a funeral Mass at 11:00 am will be held at St. Rose Catholic Church, Channing, Michigan, with Father Janusz Romanek presiding.
