Obituary for Geraldene J. McClure (Marciniak)

Me: “Mama, would you like your cheesecake crust like this, or like this?” Geri: “You know me, I’m not particular and am fine with anything.” Me: “Mama, you are the most particular person I know – You are making your own birthday dinner because no one else makes it as good as you do.”

Geri was 81 when cancer came to finish the job it started 14 years earlier. In that time, she got to know her young grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She was able to earn new nicknames such as Hot Sauce Grandma, KiKi, and Grandma Geri, in addition to the well-established ones of Mama, Grandma Meow, Geri-Beri and Dear.

Geraldene June Marie Marciniak was born in the UP June 27th, 1941, before moving to Chicago two weeks later. In her 81 years, she found and married her true love Richard McClure, twice. She had three children, Richard McClure II, Robert McClure and her baby girl Bonnie. She also saw all three marry and find happiness in their lives and with their children. Rich and Sue gave her two grandchildren Catherine and Richard III. Each of them gave her great-grandchildren with Ava Rose, Gavin, and Emmett from Catie and Adam and Annalise, Jackson, and Olivia from Richard III and Katie. Bob gave her two grandchildren, Robert and Justin, with Rob and Jessica recently giving her the last great-grandchild she knew, little 4-month-old Parker who stole her heart. Bob is now happily married to Diane, whom she cared for greatly. Lastly, Bonnie and Bill gave her the youngest grandchild, Everett, who had her wrapped around his enormous pinky. Beyond her biological children there was another, Del, who she loved dearly. Del and Lisa gifted her with little Callan, a few years younger than Everett.

Geri had several unique skills such as being amazing at packing, a margarita aficionado (and snob), ability to pull great ideas out of thin air and the most amazing skill of having the worst luck at restaurants.

The first time she ever had pizza was in Racine and there has been no other for her since. She loved to eat out (just not outdoors), cheesecake, spicy salsa, margaritas, movies and popcorn, blue anything (especially glass), roses, hummingbirds, snorkeling while on cruises, vacuuming to Herb Albert, and kitty cats. The one thing she cherished above anything else was her family. Her parents Marie and Sylvester, sisters Betty and Carlene, nieces Debbie and Chris, and her own children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Geri started her life in the Catholic Church and had resolved to make her way back. She atoned and found peace with God in the end.

Everyone has favorite experiences, memories and moments with her. Hopefully, we will all enjoy sharing those with each other in person – see details below.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate any donations be made to BBS “Bardet Biedl Syndrome”, which was something very dear to Geri. Donations can be made by clicking the link below.
