Eugene “Gene” Zawikowski

The last surviving son of Jennie Zawikowski Hoffman and Joseph Zawikowski died on June 23, 2017. Self nicknamed “Cuzzy”, he was a man of diverse talents. Although service during WWII interfered with his formal education, his intellect and wit were sharp. He was simultaneously on the management side of collective bargaining for the city of Cudahy and union bargaining team at Ladish. He was a public servant. He was an alderman in Cudahy in the 1980’s (including a term as Common Council President) and continued to serve the city on various committees until he died. Generous with his time and efforts, he belonged to the Lions Club International, serving as a District Governor. He was also a world traveler. An avid armchair referee for football, tennis, and golf recently as well as football player, golfer and bowler in his younger days. A true family man, he was married to Patsy (Furdek) for 67 years. His three children Jeanne Johnson (Clarke), Joan Zawikowski, and Michael (Colleen) Zawikowski grew up seeing unconditional love in action. His three grandchildren Emily (Rob) Cherrone, Evan (Cory) Zawikowski, and Stuart Johnson grew up experiencing unconditional generosity in action. His three great-grandchildren Colton, Caellum, and Ciaran grew up experiencing his deep belly laughs with his baby whispering talents on full display. Services will be held at Nativity of the Lord on Monday July 10, visitation from 9-11 followed by mass at 11. Interment will be private.
